Does Being Perfect Make You Imperfect?

Perfection

I often find myself wanting to do something only to end up not doing it out of fear of failing. Seems counter-productive, doesn’t it? However, for someone who wants everything to go just right, it makes perfect sense. I mean, after all, if I don’t do it then I can’t fail. Right?

For instance, I’ve been wanting to find a way to make some money while staying home. Finding a way to help earn money for my family has been my primary goal for the past several months. To save you the sob story in short form, I have a back injury that makes it impossible for me to go to a regular brick and mortar job. I even have a friend who makes money being a virtual assistant and she makes decent money. So, what’s stopping me? I can do that.  Only how am I going to find the work?

Here’s where the hold up comes in. How am I to find the work in order to make the money? I need to find a way to use my skills,  education, and computer to generate enough income to make up for what I used to bring in.  I’ve been trying to figure out where to start.

The Name and Niche

Therefore, I started researching what I needed to do to find work. Everywhere I looked, it said that I needed to have a website. Alright, so how do I do that? I read a few more blogs, and one of them led me to a host site. I get there thinking oh this should be easy right. Wrong! Now, I had to figure out a great domain name. Here’s where the panic begins again. I don’t know what constitutes the “perfect” domain name.

In addition to finding a name that no one has already, I had to portray my perfect niche. Niche? What the heck is a niche? It turns out it means something you’re good at and what you want to do. Hmmph. Couldn’t they just say that?

The Freak Out!

Here’s where I start freaking out and begin to try and talk myself out of it, for the millionth time. I didn’t have a clue how to, or what to pick for that perfect name. All the blogs I read said your name is what is going to grab a hold of people. It has to tell the reader what you’re about and what you have to offer.

First of all, what do I have to offer? I had several ideas. However, I wasn’t sure if any of them were what other people wanted to know about or do. In addition, I had to come up with something that was going to allow me to make some extra money.

Again, crept in the I can’t do this. It’s not gonna be anything anyone’s going to want to read about. Then this little voice in the back of my mind starts saying how are you ever going to know if you don’t try? I’m sure you all know exactly what little voice I’m talking about because we’ve all heard it. A couple more weeks go by and I finally decide to jump in with both feet. I’m either going to sink or swim. Let’s hope I swim.

Please come by often so you can see for yourself if I sink or swim.
